What is the PE and Sport's Premium?

Primary PE and sport premium 2026/27 is moving away from the existing Primary PE and Sport Premium arrangements, where schools were given two payments in the academic year.  The transition funding available for the 2026/27 academic year has been increased from £100 million to £150 million. This will provide primary schools with a one-off PE and Sport Premium payment to support the move to the new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network. 

The Department for Education is currently seeking a National Delivery Partner to establish and manage the new PE and School Sport Partnerships Network announced last year.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools.

What is the purpose of the funding?

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but schools have been given the freedom to choose how they do this.

In 2025-26, our funding was spent on:

• continued participation in inter-school events and tournaments
• promotion of inter-house competitions
• a subsidy for disadvantaged children to access sports club
• additional swimming lessons
• promoting CPD opportunities for teachers though outside professional coaching
• Observing good practise
• scooter training
• the organisation and running of sports day
• the purchase of additional equipment
• increasing activity levels of pupils during play times
