Getting to Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School
Let’s Make Every Step Count!
At Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School, we are committed to being a green school. We encourage all our families to choose sustainable travel methods whenever possible. Choosing to walk, cycle or scoot doesn’t just help the planet but helps to keep the roads around the school traffic free.
Walk, Scoot or Cycle
The majority of our families live within a 15-minute walk of the school. Berrylands is a fantastic area for active travel and we provide facilities to make this as easy as possible:
-
Bike & Scooter storage: We have dedicated storage areas on-site. Please remember to wear a helmet!
-
Walking to school: Walking to school is a great time to chat with your child and practice road safety skills.
-
Park and Stride: If you live too far to walk the whole way, consider parking 5–10 minutes away and walking the final stretch.
Public Transport
We are well-connected to local transport links, making it easy to leave the car at home:
-
Train: Berrylands Station (South Western Railway) is a short, 10-minute walk from the school gates.
-
Bus: The K2 bus route serves the local area, with stops conveniently located on Raeburn Avenue and nearby roads.
If You Must Drive
We understand that sometimes driving is unavoidable. If you do need to use a car, please help us keep our pupils safe and our neighbours happy:
-
Avoid the "School Run" Congestion: Please do not park on the zig-zag lines or block residential driveways.
-
Engine Off: Always turn off your engine when stationary. Idling creates unnecessary pollution right where children are breathing.
-
Car Share: If you live near another Grand Avenue family, why not team up? It halves the emissions and the parking stress.
Travel for Life
At Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School, our commitment to the environment is reflected in our active participation in TfL’s Travel for Life project, where we work to reduce our carbon footprint and promote safer streets. We have invested in practical infrastructure, such as installing scooter parking and the Cycle to Work scheme for our staff, to ensure that active travel is a viable option for everyone. Our pupil-led Eco Club keeps the momentum going year-round, analysing data from our annual "Hands-Up" surveys to track how our habits are changing.
Education is at the heart of our mission; through the Junior Citizenship Scheme and lessons focusing on Understanding Considerate Behaviours, we teach our pupils to be respectful of our neighbours and the environment. We celebrate this culture during national events like Bike Week and Cycle to School Week, encouraging a bit of healthy competition and fresh air. Even when travelling further afield, we prioritise sustainability by utilising public transport for local visits and hiring private coaches for longer school trips to keep multiple cars off the road. Through these collective efforts, we aren't just travelling to school - we're travelling for the future!
